GHOSTHUNTING OHIO
by John B. Kachuba
Whether you believe in ghosts or other aspects of the paranormal, every culture has its folklore and many, many people have had an experience they simply can’t explain. John Kachuba decided to investigate for himself, so he started with his home state of Ohio. GHOSTHUNTING OHIO ($14.99, Emmis Books), examines more than 30 of the spookiest haunts, from cemeteries to inns and taverns to libraries and cafes, all over the Buckeye State. The results might surprise even the most devout skeptics.
“There are experiences that defy logic, science, and technology, strange occurrences for which we have no explanation. I cannot explain the whitish orbs that appeared in some photos I took in buildings said to be haunted. I cannot explain the feelings of negative energy I felt in a haunted basement,” says the author in the book’s introduction. “I am not a ‘sensitive’ or medium. I’m an average guy, just like you, with a curiosity about things paranormal. My intentions as I wrote this book were to accurately and objectively describe for you my observations and experiences, as well as the experiences of others I met along the way, and then let you draw your own conclusions.”
In GHOSTHUNTING OHIO, readers will learn of haunted locales from across Ohio, including:
*The Majestic Theatre in Chilicothe, where victims of the 1918 Spanish Influenza were “stacked like cordwood” *Fort Meigs in Perrysburg, where an invisible solider has been known to walk employees to their cars at night *The Cincinnati Art Museum, home to at least three ghosts—including a seven-foot tall medieval monk *The Ashtabula library, where the ghost of Ethel, a former librarian, is said to still walk the halls *Plus tales of Logan’s Guitar Man, Columbus’s Lady in Gray, and many more
John Kachuba is the author of How to Write Funny and the co-author, with his wife, Mary A. Newman, Ph.D, of Why is This Job Killing Me? He currently lives in Athens, Ohio, widely regarded as one of the most haunted places in the world.

News: GHOST HOUNDS TO APPEAR AT DRAGON*CON 2005 |
|
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ATLANTA, GEORGIA - August 25, 2005 - Ghost Hounds Paranormal Investigators Network will again be represented at Atlanta's "Dragon*Con" sci-fi / fantasy convention. 2005 will mark Ghost Hounds sixth consecutive year at this event, which annually attracts over 25,000 guests from around the nation and the globe.
Dragon*Con will be held in downtown Atlanta at the Hyatt Regency and Marriott Marquis hotels from Friday, September 2'nd, to Monday, September 5'th. More information about Dragon*Con can be found on their official website - including guest listings, program schedules and ticket prices - http://www.dragoncon.org/
Members of Ghost Hounds have been featured panelists at Dragon*Con since 2000, and the groups panels have been received by standing room only crowds every year. In years past, the group has capped the first panel by selecting random audience members to attend an actual paranormal investigation during the convention. The selected investigators reconvene at a follow up panel later in the convention to recount what they experienced.
"I'm honored that Ghost Hounds have been asked to return to Dragon*Con once again for 2005. The capacity crowds we see every year are a testament to how much interest there is in this field of research, and events such as this allow us a unique opportunity to gauge how this field attracts people from all walks of life" says Burns.
New for this year will be a Ghost Hounds "fan" table in the main commons area of the Marriott Marquis atrium. Visitors will be treated to videos of past Ghost Hounds media appearances, along with clips from past investigations. The group will be handing out printed information about Ghost Hounds and answering questions that the general public has about the group and paranormal investigations.
Ghost Hounds is among the largest paranormal research groups in existence today with subscribers totaling over 1,700 from around the globe. Further information about Ghost Hounds can be found on their website at http://www.ghosthounds.com/.

News: California cops want to bust ghost hunters |
|
CONTRIBUTED BY "WINGEDGUY"
August 14, 2005 (REDLANDS, Calif.) — Police here are determined to bust the legend of Billy's ghost. For more than 20 years, ghost hunters, amorous teens and the just plain curious have flocked to Mariposa Elementary School in the wee hours in hopes of spotting the ghost of a boy that legend says died in the school nurse's office.
Or maybe he was hit by a truck. Or perhaps he split his head open after tumbling from playground swings.
Whatever the actual story, lovers of the paranormal believe little Billy decided to spend his afterlife roaming the school's halls after dark...
The legend may be harmless, but police say they are tired of sending patrol cars to the rural campus to keep trespassers away.
So authorities intend to install a video surveillance system not to catch the ghost, but the ghost hunters.

News: Can Orbs Be Seen With The Naked Eye? |

Is it possible to see orbs without a camera?
Leah Perrino wrote:
Hi!
ok, so i have a slightly different question about orbs. i know that dust particles in the air can cause orbs to appear in photographs, but what about seeing an orb with your own two eyes? this did not happen to me (unfortunately), but my friend maria will always tell me this story when i talk about ghosts with her. she says she and her friend, when they were about 20 years old, were sitting in her room on her bed, and in her peripheral vision she catches some movement coming from the corner of the room. they both look, and there were three orbs, and either 2 were pink and 1 blue or vice versa, were very vivid, almost neon bright, and within had swirls and particles. they floated slowly between the two girls at eye level, then darted past them, towards the (closed) window, and when they hit the glass, they disappeared. both girls saw it. and of course i asked her the obvious question of "were there any hallucinogens involved" and she swears that no, they were completely sober. and i dont think she would lie about this, she brings it up all the time because it still bothers her to this day, and shes 36 now. thats a long time to be wondering about something so strange. she said shes gone online a few times but found only information about orbs on film, so i told her i would see what i could find. if you have any information or insight into this, i would really appreciate the help.
