This thread is started because of another topic that has been started. I didn't want to twist or change the subject on that particular one so here goes....Sorry Mister!!!

Depending on the person's own personal belief, most "paranormal investigators" start with a prayer and ask for protection and end with a cleansing prayer. BUT WHY?? If we are going to investigate, don't we want to see what is there? What really happens.. Can it follow you, actually harm you, see, taste, touch, feel, etc? If it does, what then? Is there another plane or afterlife? Reincarnation?

I know it may sound contradicting to ask these questions after some of my posts but think about it. Why ask then tempt it?

I know I don't ask or pray for anything, before or after. I just go and most of the time alone. I have a cell phone. I do all the standards... pics, emf, evp. I know, I know!! I'm breaking all the rules of investigating **giggles** but I never think about it.

Thoughts?? Comments??

Hopefully most of the spirits that we as investigators will encounter will be of the "white light" spirit variety. However, that being said there are negative spirits out there. As investigators we can never truly be sure ahead of time what we may be dealing with on an investigation. Therefore I feel it is very important that we take precautions to protect ourselves.

I don't use the prayers to lessen or prevent activity but just to protect myself from what could possibly be negative side effects from it.

I have some psychic sensitivities and mediumistic abilities so it is especially important that I take precautions even more so than investigators that don't have the same abilities.

I don't think that white light spirits would do anything to try to harm us however they do want us to understand them and whatever messages they may have or whatever it is that they may have gone through.

In my most recent investigation at a civil war cemetary - I had the feelings of something touching my face and holding my arm, etc - those to me were great and very exciting.

I had other sensations as well. - I felt a very sharp jab of a needle in my arm while passing by a particular area of the cemetary - a fellow investigator got the sensation of a needle in his back a couple of times at the same spot - oddly enough we were next to the grave of a Doctor.

By another area - I got a very sharp sudden pain in my upper left thigh. Then very hard pressure around it as if a turnoquet (sp?) was being tightened around my leg. I don't know that the spirits were necessarily trying to harm us but maybe more that the Dr was just trying to continue in his role as a Dr and that the other soldier spirit may just have wanted me to understand his injuries and what might have ultimately led to his death. It's hard to say for sure.

In other investigations I have had a spirit go right through me - and felt like something was holding my hand etc.

I love all the personal experiences that I have had and so far I have never encountered a negative spirit on an investigation. But I have encountered negative energies a long time ago and it was not a pleasant experience. It made me very ill until I left the area where the negative spirits were and then I was perfectly fine and back to normal again.

I personally choose to wear a St Michael medallion and use the prayer of St Michael before and after. I also have another prayer to call him down immediately if I were to feel that I was in immediate danger.

During an investigation - I let the white light spirits that I am open to communication and that they are welcome to make their presence known by touching me or gently tugging my hair, etc as long as their actions are in a non threatening manner. However, I also feel it is very important to close that back off so to speak at the end of an investigation and ask that things stay where they are and not follow me home.

I don't think using prayers of protection would lessen activity unless it isomething of a negative energy that may be kept from doing something that would harm you.

Just my 2 cents worth - I'd be interested to hear your reactions as well as the opinions of others as well.

Thanks for responding and telling me just exactly why and how you pray before and after an investigation. I don't know who St. Michael is, so I will have to reasearch that after I finish this post.

It sounds like you have had some amazing experiences and have some very special gifts. I'm "sensitive" to certain things and certain times throughout the year. Sounds like nothing compared to what you have. My friends like to tease me and call me the death angel. LOL

Ok..getting way off topic....

Sounds like to me that whatever your doing before, during and after an investigation is working for you. But then again in your words you have only experience "white" light spirits. What about the black? Are you interested in what they can and can not do? Do they even exist? Why are they black instead of white?

I haven't ever experienced anything that scared me or harmed me in any way. I guess if I do, I would change how I did things. I have too many questions if, when, how....

I prayed for protection for me and mine. I prayed that I would be safe - and that I would be perceived as helpful and not a threat - that I wanted to ask questions and observe but not provoke or insult. I wanted to be as impartial as possible - and I prayed again that I would be left alone and that nothing would harm me or follow me - and all of that stuff. As I stated in another thread, I was an active Christian. So I didn't rush through the prayers like it was just a formality - I took my time and was as sincere as I could be because I knew what could happen if I wasn't.
I never considered that it might interfere with the hunt - but that seems logical. It does seem like we pray to be protected and then proceed to poke and prod as if it's okay now because we prayed. That will be something I'll have to consider before I go again - if I do.

Exactly... but then again, if I ever had a bad experience or something to harm me I would change how I did/do things. My thing is I want to see what there is. What really happens when we die? Can I help the dead in any way?
