This is a great topic for debate I have found. I personally think they are true pioneers in the field but there are many out there who feel that they are charletains. What does everyone else think about Ed and Lorraine Warren?

It is hard to believe in anything they have done since the Ammityville incident was proven to be a hoax and they are STILL being sued over this case and others today.

I personally think they are frauds.

Once your reputation is called into question because of a proven hoax, it is virtually impossible to retain credibility. Especially in an area of research that struggles to maintain credibility as it is.

Hello This is at least the second time I have seen someone post on GHOSTHOUNDS asking about about Ed and Lorraine Warren. On youtube there is a uploaded set of videos called The Real Amityville Horror. Here is a link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2yec5OE9w8&feature=related at the 50 second mark Lorraine said that Warner Brothers studios owns the rights to their life story. They were also tech advisors on Amityville 2 The Possesion.I would think they have made more money off of Paranormal research than half the field combined. They are also in more than a few of the shows called A Haunting that used to be on TV.On that show every investation they conducted was said to be demonic. This is a subject that I also would really love to have more peoples opinion on.

I have to second Clydesmom on this one. The Warrens are almost as bad as the clowns on "Most Haunted". I cannot believe they have attained any level of credibility in the paranormal community. I guess my view could be viewed as slightly tainted. I do respect the "gifts" of mediums and sensitives, but could not base an investigation solely on their merits...just my 2 cents. Take a penny if ya need one. Leave one if ya got one.

I don't know if they are (were since Ed is deceased) charltans or not. I don't really agree with everything they wrote in their book, 'Graveyard' though. Like cwf081166 said they tend to deem everything found in an investigation as demonic in nature. I like her sense of humor though, like when she slapped Chip Coffey...that was too funny! Laughing

i'm not 100% convinced that the Amytville case was a hoax.

That photo of the little Da Feo boy who was murdered's ghost captured near the stairwell in a photo during their investigation still has me unsure.

The photo of the boy was found long after paranormal investigation was over and by george lutez secreary I think it should be called in to question also.It could have been staged as much as anything

I don't think they are frauds but used... Without going in to much detail honestly I believe Lorraine believes in what she is doing… The Lutz in my opinion chose them to the Amityville case and were used by implanting many elaborate manipulations. Some of which I have caught trying to be used on me by clients in my personal investigations. I think that by the time they caught on it was a bit too late to take back what was done… It’s sad in anyway and something that we as investigators need to look out for… Although I do question how for them especially Lorraine most investigations come out to be demonic in nature? Are they false? Or is one attached to her? I just can’t believe that there can be that many inhumans around. But then again I am not an expert and can be wrong.

The Defeo child picture to me seems very much like a fake. There are many elements to it that show it has been touched up at one point… But I wonder if it was touched up from the get go or when it was sent to the press?

This really makes me want to make a panel or workshop on fake ghost images and how they can be done… grr…

I think about it this way: Ed and Lorraine had been doing Paranormal Research and exploration since the 50's. Way, way, way back then, technology and discussion about this subject was basically zilch.

I call them pioneers of the field because they were basically doing this alone by themselves in the "dark" so to speak with very little basis on knowledge of the field to go on. Back then, just about everything known of the paranormal field was teemed "Demonic" activity. Today we are more scientifically enlightened then her and her group were back then.

I don't blame her for being a little bit "naieve" in her findings from over 40 years ago compared with what we know now; her team was doing the best it could with what limitations they had to work with for their era back then.

I agree that it incorrect to label EVERY paranormal activity as demonic but like i said, they were pioneers OF their time before all these groups and "professionals" have come out today and began bringing the field of paranormal research out of the "shadows" and enlightened the public to its cerdibility as a truly scientific field of study.

in my heart and soul I honestly feel that the Warrens genuinely began their work in this field to enlighten and assist people in need and NEVER to scam, bamboozle, or gain monetary compensation as sole purposes for beginning work in the field.

Thats my gut feelings on these researchers.
