It's almost Christmas and I've decided it's time to get rid of my crappy point-and-shoot Kodak Easy Share so I am looking for a good, but not overly expensive, camera to take with me on investigations. I want one of the smaller ones so that it doesn't take up a bunch of room in my bag. I also don't want one that does too much since I am technologically challenged. I was looking at the Nikon D40, but it's too big.

Any suggestions?

I agree that the D40 is bulky, but it's well worth the price! It takes GREAT pics (and I love the fact that you can edit a photo on the camera before printing!). I'm semi-technologically challenged Clown but have learned a lot from using this fairly easy-to-use camera (and am still learning!).
From what I understand, most any Nikon brand will give you good quality pics.

(Sorry...I know that wasn't much help...lol)

I was wondering about DSLR camera myself. Is there anyone that came give us some info on them dealing with ghost hunting?

I know some have burst mode? Do all DSLR's have this? Also what about lens, I see so many types 20-200mm 50-150mm. 20-55mm. I don't know anything about lens. Is a wider range a better lens? or do you loose "performace" if you get a wide range lens? is the mm just how far the lens can zoom? Soo confused.

Maybe I'll rethink my decision then. I really like the idea of not having to wait to take multiple pictures. That is so annoying. By the time my camera is ready again, I've missed the shot. Hmmm.

If you can afford it, definitely go for an SLR with IR capabilities (Sony models for instance).

I like SLR's because the flash is typically further away from the lens, causing less false positives etc..., But to be honest I never, ever consider photographs sources of any kind of good evidence on their own.

But of course we all need/want a nice camera for all kinds of reasons. Good luck.
