I wanted to present the details of this event and get some opinion's regarding possible non-paranormal explanations for this occurrence.

Situation: I'm driving from Huntsville, AL back to Jacksonville, FL and I decide to stay in a Comfort Suites hotel for the evening. I checked into Comfort Suites in Cordele, GA and was assigned room #110.

I was by myself that evening in a single room with 1 King sized bed. I went ahead and pulled in most of my luggage and set two large pieces on the right-hand side of the bed (right-hand if you are standing at the foot of the bed facing the headboard) the luggage took up half of the bed and two pieces layed out were as long as the entire bed.

The King bed had a night stand on either side, however, the alarm clock was on the left night stand (where I chose to sleep) and the standard hotel phone was on the right night stand.

I spent the entire evening sitting at a desk using my laptop or outside talking on my cell phone. I never once used the hotel phone to make or receive a call or to place a wakeup call. I also didn't place any object on the night stand or nearby.

Went to bed around 3am and had the alarm set for 10am exactly because hotel check-up was at 11am.

I recall having a really amazing dream in which I was driving my RAV4 and it spun out of control repeatedly doing circles (in place) which made me quite scared but I was able to get out of the car uninjured. When I looked at the spot where it spun around, the burned rubber tire tracks had formed the symbol of the "Flower of Life".

To be honest I had been doing a lot of reading and research on the merkaba and sacred geometry the night before.

As this dream continued I walked into a hotel that had a convention going on at the time. Tons of people were all around me as I ascended several flights of stairs in a spiral staircase leading up to the highest floor.

On this floor I was greeted by at least 20 Buddhist monks, most of whom were not in ceremonial robes, the one's in ceremonial robes appeared as adults, while those in normal clothes were children-teenagers (with shaved heads). They were standing around in a circle and I went and hugged all of them one by one. Then they began to chant in meditation.

At that point I allowed the energy of the meditation to fill my body and I started to float upwards, the only thing that stopped me was reaching the ceiling where I continued to float around amongst all the hanging ornaments (wind chimes, bells).

"If you can't fly in your dreams it's rather difficult to describe the sensation to you."

After a the mediation stopped I gradually floated back down to the floor and was so excited about flying that I had to call my friends and let them know about the experience.

I pulled out my cell phone and called an old friend from Lexington, KY and started telling this Chris about flying and I wanted him to come to the convention hotel immediately to see me.

While on the cell phone in my dream and quite asleep= I heard a loud tone that just kept going.

It woke me up, it wasn't the BEEP, BEEP, BEEP of the alarm clock to my side because I looked at it to see ~9:30am still set and ready to go off at 10am.

This tone was still going and I looked over to the hotel phone, it was coming from the phone, it sounded like the long tone you get when you have left the phone head-set off the hook for a long time.

So I literally have to climb up and over some big luggage to reach the phone, the tone is still going. I notice that the receiver is still completely & perfectly in it's tray and I pick up the receiver and click it back down and the tone stops.

So that's the story in as much detail as possible to help facilitate educated discussion on the possible explanations for the noise. Other info that might be helpful, I am a complete insomniac and I'm also a very light sleeper, who wakes up immediately alert and aware of my surroundings at the slightest movement or noise. Think of it along the lines of a military person who has been living in a combat zone for a long time.

Any ideas on what could be happening with a telephone to get that tone without touching it?[/url]

Your visiting to many Cons, Studying too much, and eating too much spicy food before bed. The phone thing, I hate to break this to you, but rats, REALLY BIG RATS. crawling around the night stand, or someone came in the room, should put your luggage in front of the door instead of your bed. Smile

As much as hotel phones get abused, there could be something loose inside, and as the room cools and heats it moves. Like TVs how the plastic pops and creaks when they get hot, and when they cool down.

Also, I know you say you’re a light sleeper. I am to, and I wake up alert, but something to consider, the phone might of been doing this a lot longer. The noise may caused for a more lucid dream, also making you want to call someone in your dream because that sound is associated with a phone. Even though I'm a light sleeper, I have incorporated stuff like that into dreams, before realizing what it was.

When I lived with my friend long time ago, He didn't have air so I would sleep with the door open. He would try to sneak in the room, but I would just open my eyes because I knew he was there. He couldn't figure out how I could do that. So I know I can incorporate familiar noises into my dreams without waking. But on the other hand, I would have to bang on his door for a half hour to wake him up.

So to sum it up, I think the phone had technical issues, that caused a beeping, that created a lucid dream of sorts.

Just my pennies worth of thoughts.

Also, if you never touched the phone, you don't know if it was working or not. The phone will only beep off hook for so long before stopping. So the phone still may of been just off it's cradle. Around 9am. When people start working. The phone switch my of been giving out a error message for that phone, and whoever is in charge of phone may of reset it. causing it to become active but still off hook and start beeping again. If there are any comerical phone or PBX people out there. They maybe able to help back this up.

Also if you want to get really techy. Call the hotel and try to get ahold of who supports the phones, and see if they keep a trouble log. I've had that style phone not hang up before, if you set them down just right they won't depress the switch. I thought you where talking about the old fashion kind, before I seen the picture.

hey, Ms T!

something which comes to my mind which is totally non-paranormal, but may be the answer to your quandry.

when I was flying, many times I would stay in a room which had an automatic wake-up call set on the room either by a former resident or by an error by the front desk. the tones on the phones are sometimes different than regular phones.

it will continue for a minute of two, or until one picks up the receiver and hangs it up to clear it for the day. and if the front desk does not clear the computer, it will call again the next morn!

many times I would hear the phones in the rooms next to me ring incessantly and after a few minutes it would stop. the person either was not there, or it was a left-over from the day before.

this might explain the ending to your dream.

Thank you for some of your possible suggestions,

however our lovely and talented Denisee, earlier today called the Comfort Suites directly and asked them regarding their automatic wake-up phone system.

Good Evening!

I read your post on GH and thought I'd send you a possibility.

At first I thought maybe you had stirred in your sleep and bonked into the luggage which may have adjusted the phone off the hook very slightly. But then, I think you would have noticed that.

So, I called our local Comfort Suites and asked a few questions. First of all, wake up calls are handled internally and are set by the hotel front desk folks. It is a computer program that makes the calls and delivers a "wake up" message.

I asked them if they realized they had a wake up call scheduled erroneously, what happens when they cancel it. The girl I talked to said that they just cancel it in the computer system. Then I asked, "what if it's 8:29 and you realize someone has an 8:30 call in error". She said that again, they have had that situation and they just cancel it before the alarm time. Either way, the alarm would make the phone ring and not buzz or give off a tone.

We know that most hotel phones are not like regular house phones. They usually have some feature. (such as pushing #9 to get an outside line, etc.)

I have read your story three times. Here is what I think the possibilities are:

a.) You were not only flying in your dream, but astro-projecting and bumped the phone on your way back to your body. Ever so slightly - just enough to move it barely off.

b.) There was some faulty thing happening with the phone having to do with the wake up call system and the previous resident of your room had a 9:30 wake up call.

c.) (And this is my least favorite) Some critter walked across your night stand and bonked the phone oh-so-slightly off.

I don't know if any of this is helpful. But I thought you definitely had an interesting experience.

How are you doing? It was so good to see you at DragonCon.

Hugs,
Denise[b]

Thanks! Embarassed You know, you're pretty talented and lovely yourself!

I did call a local Comfort Suites. I think it would be warranted to call the one you stayed at and ask them to check the phone in the room you stayed in.

My gut still says that this is a non-paranormal experience. I think somehow it was a faulty phone issue and possibly a computer/wake-up call glitch.

Still interesting....
