My dad was telling me about a spot called Thieve's Ridge in NC. I think it's in the NW corner of NC, but not sure. I can't find anything related to it.
I think it's North of Lansing, NC. Up in that area there is a place called Sturgills, and Spencer RD. These are last names of my Grandmothers family. (I don't really know them). This is the area my dad stayed when he was younger.
He said there is a ridge on top of the mountain you can walk from NC to Tenessee. He use to walk it to visit a uncle in Tenessee. Settlers had been using this path for a very long time.
Not sure what year this would of happen, maybe in the 1800's. There was a clan of Theives that would kill the travelers who walked the ridge and take thier belongings. There was alot of them like 50+/-.
He says the story goes, they sent in a Militia and killed everyone, Men, Women and Children. They buried them on the ridge only marking the gaves with colored stones to mark male, female, or child.
One day he was walking through the graveyard area and ran across a man in old clothes, with a brim hat and no shoes. He yelled hello sir, the man didn't response. He said it again, and nothing, So he started heading away from the man down the mountain kinda quickly. When he turned around to look back. the man was gone, and there was no place on the side of this ridge he could of disappered to that fast. He had a clear view of the ridge behind him.
Some time later, my dad was heading with his grandmother to one of her friends house. There was a old Tin picture on the wall of some people. He told his grandmother the man in the picture was the one in the graveyard he had seen. She told him that was silly, that man had been dead a very long time. The lady they were visiting had been related to the clan that lived up on the ridge.
I was wondering if anyone had ever heard of this Thieves Ridge.
(There is a copy of this in NC forum, but please reply here)

Hi, I have not heard of Theives ridge, but I know there is an area up there where the 3 states meet and not so pleasant covens have been known to reside there. I met a woman from there at a spirit release class several years ago, held in augusta, and she was very strange.
almost as if she were possessed. I tend to think she was. Never talked to her much but began to get a strange amiling from her sent by fed ex. our addresses were given to everyone. I called Kathy the leader of the retreat, and she said to send it back after making a copy as she felt this woman was possessed also, by something dark. anyways, the area she was from is about where you are talking about. I just cannot remember the name of the area. Kathy also said there were many indian burial grounds that were built on in that area. Bimmy
