I've been wanting to post this for awhile, but am a little nervous. I'm not a ghosthunter, & have always avoided any places or situations where there might be any ghostly acitivity. I've always said I don't believe, but really I was terrified of seeing or experiencing ghosts. Since I bought my house, though, (which seems to have a ghost), I've been thinking back over my life & remembered some experiences that make me wonder if the reason I was so afraid is because I was sensitive to ghosts.
*I've always heard a buzzing or ringing sound, but it's more like an external vibration than something in my head.
*I've experienced sleep paralysis many times, sometimes seeing & hearing dark figures around me.
*I've always seen silvery, shimmery "auras" in the air around me that I thought were a vision problem.
*I've been to places or in houses & felt so uncomfortable, even afraid, (for no obvious reason) that I had to leave.
*I've also felt feelings of peace & love in other places.
*I've had dreams of things that eventually happened.
*I've seen & heard a few strange things that can't easily be explained.
I think my great-grandmother & her mother might have been sensitive, because my ggma used to tell me about things she & her mother saw & heard. My grandmother , however , was a very stern & practical woman who would have tried to ignore any abilities she might have had.
This is all new to me, and scares me. I was brought up to believe that anything relating to the paranormal is evil, and that when people die they are either in heaven or hell. I can't talk about it w/ family or friends, because they act like I'm losing my mind. Even though I'm well educated (I'm an engineer) people look at me like I'm a complete idiot. (i'm sure you are all familiar with "the look" 8!!) Anyway, I've got to get back to work, but I'll post some more specific experiences if anyone's interested. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated!!

Hello lilhemi.

Welcome to the hounds.

1st of all it does not matter if your not a Ghosthunter, all are welcome here no matter what.

We are all born sensitive, some of us simply dont switch it off as we get older. Its nothing to be afraid of and its certainly not evil. Jesus if he was here today would be one of the greatest mediums and healers ever!

The churches and Bible state that to scare people away from the old pagan ways, In fact they if forced will admit that there is such a thing as spirits and not just the holy one.

Being a sensitive is nothing to be afraid of, its a bit daunting at 1st as you do feel a little odd and different. But think of it as a gift, you are able to help others if you so wish.

I too get the look when I tell people what my other job is! Thing is.I'm the 1st person they go to when they need a reading or there is something spooky occuring! Laughing

You sound as if you are struggling to cope with the sensations that being sensitive brings. A simple thing you can do will stop that so you can deal with work and life issues its called Grounding and Protection.

Imagine your putting on a coat of white light...wrap it around yourself and say to yourself...I am now protected I will only allow feelings of love to enter my space. as you say this imagine your feet are the roots of a tall tree .. let them bury themselves into the earth ..that called grounding yourself.. When you feel as if your not being overloaded simply take off the coat..and draw up your pretend roots and go and have a cup of tea and eat something.!

This simple visualisation stops your aura or energy feild from soaking up others peoples troubles and effectivly turns off the light that attracts spirit. A untrained medium or sensitive is like a bright light in a spirits foggy street...everyone is drawn to it! You can sense them and that attracts them. its a way to communicate.

They dont mean you any harm..they simply are aware that you can sense them and after years of not being noticed or seemingly ignored they want to chat and be helped.

You Ground and Protect and you wlll find that you will be a bit easier and feel a bit more in control of whats happening. It takes practice but once learned its a gem!

Another way to deal with them if they get too close is say..I'm not ready yet (or comfortable with these feelings) please step back.

They will, but if they dont put on your coat!

If you wish to develop your gift or sensitivity there are loads of books out there that claim to turn you into John Edward in one month! They wont!

Find yourself a decent spirtualist or medium by word of mouth and go along and see what they do..They wil listen to you and wont judge..as they have been there themselves!

I can reccomend you take a look at John J Olivers website as he does a tape set on developing your ESP and in it he teaches you basic skiils...to hone your abilities.

Please feel free to inbox me if you have any Questions...and by all means share your experiences here with us..you wont be judged.

Psychic abilites tend to run in famiies..I get mine from my Great Grandmother and my dads sister...it's nothing to worry about..your normal...your just well tuned in!

Athena xx

Thanks for sharing with us. I, too, have had some similar feelings/situations and am sometimes freaked out by it. I have felt that there might be a "shadow figure" around. I was given some advice that it could take a great deal of time for us to gain trust in each other but once that happens this shadow person could reveal himself to me and reveal things to me that he feels I should know. Athena has given some good advice. I think it takes some time getting used to. I am also sensitive to other people's emotions. I can become completely overwhelmed when I'm at a large gathering with lots of other people and emotions are intense (like at funerals). I am learning to shield myself from that so I don't combine everyone elses emotions along with my own. I also can become overcome with emotions at places like Disney World. Those are happy, positive emotions but still overwhelming. I am also a teacher and can be sensitive to my students emotions if I'm not careful. This can be embarassing sometimes. Last year I had a student in tears because she felt everyone was picking on her and that she didn't have any friends. I felt what she was feeling and started crying as well. Well, I hope I don't sound like a complete fruitcake but these are my experiences.

Lol Janeway...I have to agree with you on the soaking up other's emotions thing. I'm with you there. And when you said Disney, well, I'm just glad I'm not the only one. I get emotional when the commercials come on Crying or Very sad Funerals, or even happy/bittersweet events like graduations just suck the life out of me sometimes.

Thanks so much for the encouragement! I have a question, which is , can ghosts read? Not long after my post yesterday, something happened that has been freaking me out.
My office is in an old building which used to be a Duke Power shop. I've always felt comfortable here, never seen or heard anything weird, even though my boss said he hears strange noises if he's here alone late at night. After lunch I was looking for a file, talking to my boss, with no thoughts of anything paranormal at all in my head. Out of the corner of my eye I saw someone standing in the lobby. My first thought was that the ups guy had come in (he's smokin' hot, btw!! Cool ) because the man was wearing brown. When I turned my head, he's not there. This happened throughout the afternoon. Everytime I walked by the door he was there, but if I look straight that way he sort of flashes & is gone. You know how you can look at something in bright sunlight, then close your eyes & see it for a bit? That's what it seems like.
He's tall, has brown wavy short hair, and is wearing dark brown work clothes. The pants are baggy & cuffed, the shirt has long sleeves rolled up high & tight around his biceps. He has some type of glasses pushed back on top of his head.He looks like he is from the 40's or 50's, in his mid 20's. He just stands there with his arms folded, leaning against a filing cabinet, looking at me. At least he has a pleasant expression on his face! It seems like he just wants to find out if I can see him. This morning I saw him again, & I told him to go away cause I'm not ready for this. Now I still know he's there, but I don't actually see him. This sounds crazy, but could he have read over my shoulder while I was typing? I've never experienced anything like this. Yikes!!! Shocked

Hi!
The probable reason that you're starting to see things like that guy is that you're acknowledging your gift instead of denying. Once you admit you're an empath or sensitive or whatever you want to call it, if you're like me, your abilities will increase. I've recently started talking more about being empathic, partly because it comes up when I'm talking about my book. I used to not talk about it at all except to my husband or daughter. Since I started sharing about it instead of denying it, I've begun to get more information sometimes, instead of just feeling the emotions of places and people like I used to. I'm still not sure how I feel about that, but I think I'm probably ready to start actually working with my gift and developing it now. If you take that advice about grounding and shielding, it will help you tremendously. It has really helped me.
