Okay I know we all make jokes about most old places we hunt having been civil war hospitals at one time in history. But I do have one real and I am sure annoying question but I would like to know your theory on this… Why is it that when doing EVPs in many older building that we almost always get a “Get Out!”? It is almost always assured that I pick one up in an investigation as well as a “Help Me” or “Help Us” in old abandoned buildings… I am just wanting to pick your brains and find out what is going on… Thanks… _________________ Will Hillard-Aymerich

Simple answer to that one is..
How would you feel if someone came traipsing around your house late at night with all sorts of machines and lights and startied shouting out .."Is there anyone here? do you know you are dead?"
Most Earthbound spirits still feel ownership of the property even if they are grounded or just visiting we are trespassers to them..
Some cant accept they have passed and some are scared that you are there to move em out and into the light where they feel they will go to hell or be judged for things they did in the past...a good incentive for a Go away responce on the EVP recorder.
The help me EVP's kinda speak for themselves..the energy is aware they cant be seen or heard and are scared the dont or wont accept they are dead and need help to cross and be with loved ones who can help them into the light...

Yea Will, I agree with Athena. I have gotten those same EVP's myself many times. I think the help me one's are earthbound spirits trying to get to the light; they may not know how, they may be afraid of judgement or the unknown, they may be being held back by a more dominant spirit, or they may have unsolved issues that they want solved before they cross over. It could also be an unintelligent loop also if something traumatic happened in the location. If they are telling you to get out, I still think it is earth bound spirits who are comfortable where they are and they do not want us interferring. That is my two cents...

There can be and are many reasons for both statements. It might hep to understand the statements you're asking about to remember that spirits are human. Disembodied humans, but they are still human. With thoughts and emotions as well as, like others that replied said, feeling as though where they are is their property/territory.
When ghost hunting it is a very wise idea to prevent a bad experience and should be a common practice to let whoever might be there know you're just there because you're interested in knowing who they are and that you're there to admire the property/building you're in. You're not there to harm them or the property. I don't like it when I see many of these ghost hunter episodes on Tv where the people on the show are roaming around saying words like "explore" and "investigate". I don't want an uninvited person exploring or investigating my home! Spirits don't either. If we/they do our best to not do anything that would upset whoever might be there they are most likely to treat you with good hospitality.

Ghost hunting is a potentially hazardous activity due to numerous environmental variables. Outdoor ghost hunts typically take place in dark areas such as cemeteries and old buildings which may contain unseen hazards that pose risk of bodily harm, damage to property or even death. We do not recommend anyone venture into an unfamiliar area without first surveying potential hazards during daylight hours.
