As you've all probably noticed, I placed a "chat box" on the main page of the site.

I've seen other groups use this chat box on their sites, so I thought I'd give it a go here as well.

I'm now having 2'nd thoughts about this decision, as users do not have to register to post in it. Nor do they have the same user name they do when they log on here.

It was my hope that others might be able to "chat" in non-real-time, but that is a task I now realize is being handled by the ShoutBox, only better.

I've disabled the chat box block here on the site as I'm starting to revisit the idea of returning to a traditional chat room like we had with Infinity Paranormal.

I'm still a little new, Patrick, but I honestly didn't care much for that chatbox. It wasn't easy to tell who was on, and when. The shouts seem to be doing well.

Oh, I also got that computer re-imaged. The harddrive currently on it is a 9 gb scsi drive. I've got a 40 gb ide drive that I am going to put into it instead. I should have it up and running in a couple of days with all of the updates that it needs; such as firewall, and virus protections and so on.

I'll text you when I am ready to mirror the server, and we can go from there.

once upon a time, there was a chatbox here which was unique, personal, and relevant to this site. it served well those who are involved here without having to be overshadowed by the paranormal world at large.

it was the chatroom in which I first was brought here! that means much to me.

trust it Patrick. even though it might suffer some negative effect, in the end it will work itself out and will be an asset to this site.

The problem I have with it is if you log into Hounds on more than one computer, and stay logged in, then it will show you as being in the room twice, one online, one offline.

I remember sending GG a link a year or so ago about a website that lets you build a chat room and make it permanent for free, and I'm sure you can link to it on this site. I use PhreikChat for a pet care chat room I mod almost nightly. It's 100% free (they are asking for donations), and you can ask them to make the room permanent at no additional charge.

The only downside is you would have to register on a different site, and I'm sure GG wants to keep it so that you don't have to register again just to chat. Registration's free, and as long as you set it to remember your username and password, then there shouldn't be any problems.

The shout box is fine Patrick. I never went to the chat room because I never saw anyone there I recognized as one of the Hounds. I agree that if we do not know who we are talking to that I would rather not chat with an anonomous chatter.
