On the comment about aiplane travel being safer than any other i would agree but i think , for me anyways, i would rather be in a car accident than an airplane accident. I just cant see myself in an airplane seeing the ground aproaching knowing your gonna die. Seeing your death coming is by far the worst way to go. Ive been on my share of planes, trains, and automobiles but unless i absolutely have to travel by plane i try to avoid it.
Sounds like you had a productive investigation Geek. Cant wait to hear what you got.

Update...
Sorry I've not been as chatty as usual. Between work, family, home, GhoStock and another big development in the works, I've been stretched pretty thin these past few weeks.
Re: the 191 crash site. I'm a bit embarrased to admit it, but I recently discovered that I actually fell short (by about a quarter mile) of the actual site. I took a closer look at an arial photo of Touhy Ave. and the trailer park IS still there, as is a large, empty field adjacent to the Chicago Police K-9 training center - where my research tells me the crash site is at.
The abandoned field I mistakenly took for being the crash site is simply property owned but undeveloped by the airport as it lies at the end of the runway. However, the cold spot I found there was unmistakeable. Was it possibly a spirit assoicated with another crash or other tragedy that occured near by? Or possibly even a "transient" of one of the 191 passengers?
To "gravedigger" - I'm not sure when I'll be back in the Chicago area, but when I am, I plan to do another investigation. This time to the actual site of the crash! _________________ Patrick Burns

d'oh! Thats funny. In a sort of disappointing way. Cant wait to hear what happens at the actual site.
I would venture a guess that you ran across a wandering spirit. Trying to still catch the next leg of his flight.

GG, Sounds like it was a productive hunt nonetheless. I do wonder though, like Babs said, about the wandering spirit. If there are those that claim to see a man in an outdated suit at the airport, then it's possible there were one or more spirits lurking around the area where you were. Thanks for keeping us posted though! _________________ "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars" - Les Brown

I really should check this site more. I just got back from a two month trip from Chicago. (This humidity here is killing me!)
The area I checked out was near a trailer park and not too far down from it was the field. Then again I had no fancy stuff but it was interesting to check the area out. I do find it odd after living down the street from there for 25 years I never heard anything unusual about that area. I do plan to go back in September one last time then the airlines will refuse to fly me not too long after that.
So was I in the right area to start with? Trailer Park near 72 and 83? Small field to the west and trees to the east? Mostly surrounded by commericial buildings.
Another thought also crossed my mind. I heard O'hare is buying the land between the western boarder and Busse to expand. I wonder if this will effect the area around the crash site. Sooner or later we may not be able to access the area possibly?

The area as I'm told is to the east of the trailer park, and behind the Chicago Police Depts. dog training facility.
Here is a satellite photo diagram I made...
The spot I marked as "airport property" was where I mistakenly thought the crash site was. I was only a few hundred feet shy of it to the east.
I hope to be back that way before the end of the year. I'm planning to get permission from the property owners to actually enter the site. If not, we'll likely have to settle for surveillance of the field outside the fence.[/img] _________________ Patrick Burns

I remember Flight 191 very well because my grandparents were on that flight. I was 3 years old and they had come to Illinois to help my mom after the birth of my brother. They were on their way back home to L.A. The morning they left my grandmother had told my mom that she had a dream they were going to be on the news that day. There was also a possible story about some heir to the Playboy Fortune also being on board with his wife. The wife was promoting a book which on p. 191 states about how she was so afraid to fly. I don't know if this is true, but the part about my grandparents and my grandmother are completely true.

So is anyone going there anytime soon? This past weekend would have been perfect but I didn't think of it :c(
I remember the crash - my mom thought my dad was on the flight til she got more info. I also lived a few blocks from there for a few years.
I used to work right down the road from there and would pass Elmhurst & Touhy every day but didn't notice any whining. But, I always had my radio up loud and there was a lot of noise at that intersection.
Well, if anyone plans on going let me know!
Weird this is posting as Nov 1st but it's actually Halloween morning
