I love watching reality shows about psychics and paranormal investigators, but they always leave something to be desired to me... (Excpet Haunting Evidence of course! LOL!) I just can't figure out what it is though...
What are your thoughts on what would make for a REALLY good show about ghost hunting, or psychic mediums, or the like? _________________ Blessings to you!
I know exactly what you mean! I think you and I have the right to be jaded on those shows. Lisa Williams struck me as a gem, but she is quite the diva.
A good show? I would like to see a reality face off between psychics or ghost hunting groups.

I would like to see a race between a bunch of different ghost hunting groups to find the first concrete paranormal evidence (validated of course by skeptic scientists or someone like that). With the prize being a big ole batch of new state of the art ghost hunting equipment (toys )......and a trip for the whole group to go investigate some superhaunted site.....and head to toe 'Boo' clothes/gear (or whatever their groups logo is)

That's so funny... I was thinking almost the same exact thing as you Michele! I was thinking that several different psychics, and ghost hunting teams, would investigate haunted locations and see all of the different findings and how they vary. And, I mean take them all to the same exact locations, but at different times to see what each finds. Then at the end sum up all of the findings of all of the teams and compare them to find similarities and differences.
And, I love the idea of a reality game show type race with top of the line equipment as a prize! Way to go Casperette!
I think we should get together and make this show ourselves! It'd be interesting! _________________ Blessings to you!

I've seen very few on tv that make me feel they are 100% genuine. Most of the time they come across like someone that might have some sort of ability but it's not what they are claiming. Then you have "Most Haunted", hehe.
I like that idea Casperette was talking about. That could be a huge show. Have sign ups, not just the more well known hunters. They could have prizes even.

That is a great concept. But there are a few problems I see.
The first is, this being a competition, the stakes are immediately raised and the doors to the possibility of some teams hoaxing evidence swing wide open. This is the very reason we don't charge money to perform investigations - when a tangible, material benefit exists, it instantly calls into question the integrity of the investigation and all data collected.
Next, the controls that would need to be in place to "validate" activity would be numerous and require repeatability. And that would mean keeping the location guarded and sealed off (think maximum security prison) and under remote observation for an extended period of time - weeks if not months.
I also think you'd have a tough time finding scientists who would sign off on it unless they could personally oversee every minute detail. If their observations were "sloppy" by scientific standards - meaning ANYTHING was overlooked or left to chance, they would be ridiculed by their peers. Basically shoot themselves in the foot - they would never be taken seriously again. The scientific observer would be in the "hot seat" and have much to lose.
Sorry to play devils advocate here. But I know the way the scientific model works. At best, I even the very best evidence would be called into question.
The prize has not been claimed by any ghost hunters to date for the very reasons I point out - at the end of the day, if its not dismissed after closer observation, its still always "inconclusive" at best. Doesn't mean its not real, but certainly can not be validated by the scientific model as it exists. _________________ Patrick Burns

Thanks GG,
This sounds like the challenge the guy at Skeptical Inquirer issued a couple of years ago. I saw we find the most active place we know and lock both of them there for a night and see what happens. We might all be a little more rich in the morning!

I've seen that clip and some more showing when Sylvia Browne is wrong, but keep in mind that no psychic has ALL answers all of the time. Think about the burden of responsibility that would come with that... I'm not defending her, but I can speak for myself and say that most of the time I have clients that I just connect to and I get tons of information on them and their deceased loved ones. Then sometimes I have clients that I just can not connect very clearly with. And, those are the times when I really question myself.
I am confident enough in myself and my abilities that I can openly admit that I am wrong at times. At times I get information that can not be validated, and at times I get nothing at all. But, MOST often I get information that is right, and my connections are very accurate. So, just like Sylvia was completely worng on that girl, and on many others. Think of the thousands that she has been right on with, and how she has helped those people who sought her out.

Ghost hunting is a potentially hazardous activity due to numerous environmental variables. Outdoor ghost hunts typically take place in dark areas such as cemeteries and old buildings which may contain unseen hazards that pose risk of bodily harm, damage to property or even death. We do not recommend anyone venture into an unfamiliar area without first surveying potential hazards during daylight hours.
