"Mystery in the Desert"
The body of college student Katie Sepich is discovered in the New Mexico desert. She was last seen leaving a late night party the night before. Somewhere between the party and home, Katie had been strangled and left for dead. With the case stalled and a sexual predator at large in a college town, can the team of paranormal investigators fill in the holes in the Sepich case?

This episode was the first and only episode we filmed out west for season 1. As tragic and pointless as any of the other cases we have profiled.

Katie's murder rallied her parents to a "call for arms" and they were instrumental in getting the controversial "Katie's Law" passed in New Mexico, which requires all persons arrested on felony charges to submit a DNA sample. Note that someone merely has to be suspected - not convicted - of a felony and they will be required to provide a DNA sample. This of course has been a hot item with civil rights activists.

During our investigation, I placed two thermal sensors on the exact spot Katie's body was recovered from. At one point, we experienced a dramatic drop in temperature of 20 degrees. This was not a mere spike in the temperature - this "cold spot" lingered for several minutes and only registered on one of the sensors - the other sensor just 5 feet away registered nothing! Carla and our director Tim both confirmed the existence of the cold spot in this location with their hands. There were several other fluxuations - including increases of 5 to 10 degrees in the ambient air temperature during our session at the crime scene, but the temperature drop that was aired was the most significant of them.

I have noticed that when John interacts with the relatives he seems to be genuinely emotionally stirred by them...It must be very hard to see and feel all he does and still be able to talk with them... Sad
