Ok, I'm new to the site as well.... I was born and raised in Buford, and there are SO many places in the town that give me the "creeps"... but here's just one time. Last year (october 2003) and friend of mine and myself worked at a haunted house set-up as some of the people that would scare the various crowds coming in, and we took SO many pictures there.... we loved working there. It was located at the old Tannery (now a mini market place) in Buford. Well, last night I had a strange dream just out of the blue about working in the haunted house... and in my dream, three different places/people had "ghosts" behind them. Well, first thing this morning something told me to look through the pictures that me and my friend took almost a year ago. I was flipping through them and in THREE pictures, everything fell into place. I found two orbs on one picture (the place that gave us "the chills" while working there) and one orb in each of the other pictures. Exactly where they were in my dream!!! I don't know what to make of it... This isn't the first experience like this that I've had... I've always had a gift I guess you could say. But, I was thinking about going back one night this week while all the merchants are out, and taking a lot more pix. I also wanted ot upload the pix and post them to this site so everyone could look at it.... well, thanks for taking the time to read my story, if you have any questions, feel free to respond or email me... _________________ "Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today"--James Dean

Well, first off, welcome to the group. The story about the hauntings was interesting. Will there be a haunted house there again this year? If so, maybe an investigation could be set up either after hours or before the opening night while there is access to the location. _________________ Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body,

well, there's is another haunted house... but not in the same location... but the Tannery is still open, it's an antique market during the weekend... maybe we could step up an investigation sometime soon... another thing I was curious about doing an investigation on was the old Antebellum Asylum behind the post office in Buford, it's boarded up and I've been in there a few times... a fire happened in it a few years ago... and there's a lot of stories about that place and I'd like an actual evaluation about it. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, please reply back... I was planning a trip out there this week, if anyone would like to go, let me know. _________________ "Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today"--James Dean

Hello and welome misty!
This is what Shadowlands has to say about the asylum:
"Buford - Haunted Antebellum Asylum - RT 23 (Buford hwy) - It is a really hard place to find, but now construction has been booming in that area (new mall of GA), area kids have found the place. They say it is haunted and that some homeless, transient kids live there part-time. Update: If this is the same place off hwy 23 in Buford Georgia, just behind the public library, then it is indeed boarded up all around. The place is boarded up but there is access due to local area teenagers who torn down the boards on the side. The parking lot for the place is now used as a car lot and soon the land will be sold. This place is patrolled by police and you will be arrested for trespassing. "
I don't know about you but a night in the clink isn't my idea of a good time; especially when there are plenty of legal places to pry around.

I defintely understand that... and I haven't been there since it became so restricted. I was there about a year ago... there were a lot of strange things going on, yet there was a skeptical person with the group as well, so I couldn't get into it as much as I wanted to... but oh well... I suppose I'll just have to let that one go... anyone know ANYTHING else about Dacula and Buford area??? _________________ "Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today"--James Dean

There are a bunch of good sights around the area. The old cemetary in Lawrenceville is widely touted as one of the most active in these parts. I finally located it this past weekend, I always thought it was adjacent to the courthouse but it's actually east of there on 124; right next to the park.
There's an old Grist Mill down on alcovy road that's supposed to have some activity as well. Cross 316 on Dacula road going south & make the first right (very quick turn). It's several miles down the road on the right side. It seems to be closed down now - I think the city or county bought it - so once again you're supposed to keep out. It's so close to the road, though, that you can scope it out & take pics or readings from there.

Hi, and welcome Soft Thoughts!
Yes, I've been there twice, but only to the road as it has a no trespassing notice on it. It is also called Freeman's Mill or Swann's Mill and it was the last workable water-powered mill in the county. I don't know a great deal about it's functional history, but here's a link to an article about the county's acquisition of the mill property for Greenspace:

Do you know of any areas up in the Hall Co. area that would be good for a "beginner" to look into? I work in Buford but actually live in Lula for the time being.

That's where I've seen some and also why I posted about "gaining legal access". Talking about the old asylum. I've driven by and must admit, my interest is there.

Yes, I saw your post. Unfortunately I have no clue as to how to go about contacting the land owners. I guess your best bet would be a title search at the local courthouse or City Hall.
Hi all. I am a newby here also, I actually just happened onto this site a few minutes ago,and I have been lurking. I actually just recently found the Shadowlands site yesterday. I live in Buford, but I grew up in Lawrenceville. Is the old Lawrenceville Cemetery everyone is talking about the one behind the Brand Bank in Lawrenceville, just down the road from the Courthouse?
I just wanted to say that this site is awesome, and I can't belive there are so many of us around in this area. I would have never known.
