I think it happens with EVP as well. "White Noise" is used a lot in EVP. White noise in this sense is defined as "noise produced by a stimulus containing ALL audible frequencies of vibration." If it has sound on all the levels we are able to hear, of course there has to be times when we think we hear a voice or a word. If you want to verify you have a true EVP on this website, submit it without a description of what you think you hear. People should post what they think they hear in the EVP. You have to make sure that even the other people's answers on the site are hidden until after you submit what you think it is said. This rules out conformity to one answer.
I've heard EVP's that are very clear. Maybe the way of collecting EVP, could be modified to rule out the subjectivity of "white noise."

That's why I usually rule out anything seen in mists as a sign of paranormal activity, unless the conditions at the time of the hunt (or the location) could not have allowed for a naturally formed mist, like fog or your own breath. I remember reading about something like this years ago, dealing with optical illusions, and how light and shadow can create false images on an object.
I remember even seeing something on 60 Minutes one time dealing with PRS when it came to faces. In the wood paneling in my living room, I can see what looks like an old man or woman in one strip, and in another, what looks like an eagle or hawk, or some other large bird of prey.
I remember seeing a picture someone posted on another paranormal site asking what we saw, which was a face of a man on their wall, which also had wood paneling. I immediately inquired that it had to be the paneling, that the placement of dark and light wood patterns formed the man's face.
While I was running a yard sale this past weekend, I noticed a tree in a neighbor's yard that had what looked like a little girl on the trunk, but I ruled it out as light and shadow on the trunk, and the shape of some of the bark and fungi growing on the tree. I have a tree where a limb was cut off years ago, and when I look at it from the side, it almost looks like the face of some large animal, like a rhino, or that big alien from the Disney movie "Lilo and Stitch." _________________ PRG

I sometimes wonder if we might be doing the same thing with evp.
Sometimes, perhaps, but the vast majority of EVP I'm asked to filter seems to have something more to it.
In my procedure, I use the background noise itself as the noise "filter" - telling the software to remove that component of the audio. In most instances, the "voice" remains after the background noise is reduced. Were it simply random background noise, the post filtering should take the voices with it as well.
Besides, I've heard too many EVPs that were clear as day. Definately a human voice in some of them. _________________ Patrick Burns

Very much so.
Some of the EVP also say things that a too relevent to the things that are going on at the time. _________________ Based on the condition that you are incapable of moving at a high velocity with large animals of the canine species, then you shall be required to remain in a location that is in the general vicinity of the front door of your domicile.

Ahhhh... Thank you ghostgeek. I had never even thought about computer programs that could separate the source of the sounds on an evp. I'm familiar with laying down multiple tracks in a sound studio, but I'd not considered the possibility of separating the sounds on an evp. Makes me feel like duh huh
Your explanation hit me like an epiphany... a light bulb moment.
I talk to my father, grandmothers and a few others in the afterlife. Sometimes the response that I get from them seems to be coming from inside my head. (No, I've never been diagnosed with mental health problems...hehe) Other times it comes from somewhere in the room. For instance when someone behind you speaks to you, you turn around instinctively knowing the direction it's coming from.
That type of voice I felt should be recordable... just straight out... without white noise. In fact, I'm not clear on the purpose of the white noise. Could you tell me what the purpose of the noise is? And please could you keep it verrry simple? Technological geek speak blows me away. The extent of my knowledge about it came from the movie. _________________ She asked if aborted and miscarried babies could return as ghosts.

I have a great example of this . I took a photo in my basement . The original is in orbs , " fire orb " . Someone pointed out to me a woman with a black cape in the back of the photo . I got all excited , because it really did look like a person there . So , I went down to check it out and almost fell over laughing . I'll post both in false positives . You guys will crack up . _________________ Shelley Hobbs
