Recently I installed a new security module on the website. This update has brought to my attention the fact that several users apparently are logging in from the same IP address under 2 or more accounts.

Users who have more than one login ID on the site elevate the subscriber count to unrealistic figures. It is also more taxing on the web server’s system resources, adding additional (and unnecessary) overhead to the sites database.

There is no practical reason that the average site subscriber should have more than one account here. The only obvious reasons (that I can see) would be to continue gaining full access to the site should their primary account get suspended or banned for misconduct. Or to support their own arguments in discussion threads – TACKY.

I am revising the site rules to reflect that, effective immediately, site subscribers are forbidden from registering and/or signing on with multiple ID’s on this site. Users are to use one and ONLY ONE login ID per person.

If there is a legitimate reason for more than one account to be accessing our site from a single computer or network connection (such as a family member or roommate that has their own login) please email admin@ghosthounds.com and let me know their user ID’s.

If I am not informed of legitimate accounts that share a computer or network connection and I continue to see multiple accesses from the same network addresses, the offending accounts will be suspended until the issue is resolved with me. Continued abuse of our resources will result in all offending accounts being banned from the site.

I don’t mean to come off as a jerk about this, but it makes me angry that the server is being abused in an unnecessary, immature manner like this. Thus before this spirals out of control, I’m putting an end to it by letting users know that this pattern of behavior is unacceptable and giving them a chance to change their conduct.

This is not Yahoo! or MSN Groups folks. All user activity on this site is logged and accessible to me. Please do not disappoint me and make me take more drastic steps to keep things under control.

I think its a good idea. No one needs more than ONE id, unless of course you are networking.

I think its awesome rules!NO one should have multiple ID's...Now if your networking on the same account,thats cool.But one who creates numerous ID's to start numerous problems....thats sooo uncool. Evil or Very Mad

I couldn't agree more..I think everyone knows scaredycat and I use networked computers. I hate fakers. She and I have had problems in other chat forums with imposters and know how it feels to have any kind of trouble with multiple nicks. Thanks gg for your upstanding character! I applaud you!

I use my home computer (rarely) for this site, but I use 3 different computers at work. I'm not sure how it all works, but if there is more than 1 id from the work computers I use...this is why. I doubt anyone else has an id, though, because I think I'm the only one here that seems to be interested in...well...OUR HOBBIES. Dance

well, by "ID" I mean you sign on here as "mels9rs" you don't sign on under any other user names, do you? Thats what we mean by multiple IDs - which we forbid.
